Temple Guide
Introduction
This Guide has been produced to assist visitors to the Kingdom of Cambodia in making the most of their visit to the temples of Angkor. The guide has been designed to give the reader a picture of the development of the Angkorian Empire. We hope its accompanying maps; table and glossary will set individual temples in their historical context and help to explain some of the religious and architectural terms a visitor may encounter. The Ancient Angkor Guidebook Temple Guide follows the chronological order in which the temples were built. It recommends the temples a visitor should see to attain an understanding of how the Angkor complex developed and provides a range of itineraries to help you organise your visit. For visitors with more time on their hands the guide also provides information on visiting more remote temples like Ko Ker and Beng Melea, both of which have their own charm and historical significance.
The Table of Angkorian Kings has been designed as a reference source for the Temple Guide and shows at a glance the period in which each temple was build. The accompanying Glossary contains explanations of architectural and religious terms and provides some useful cultural background to the various religions and mythologies depicted at Angkor.
